Not saying all poppy Em songs are godly, but you can clearly see the disconnect between hip hop heads saying they're "trash, garbage, mediocre" to songs that have millions upon millions of views.įirst time I ever truly dug into the hip hop and Em communities, I was so shocked how divisive LTWYL was. Only genre of music I could think of that doesn't have that obnoxious a fanbase is maybe the happy/chill EDM side, which, I mean, it's on-brand I suppose.īut like, hip hop heads for example can be just as exclusive and "purist" as metal head fans. Honestly not just metal heads but heads of most genre in general. ive seen lots of posts on metal subgenre subreddits from people getting into the music, and rarely have i seen responses other than "sweet, im glad you like the music, here are some recommendations based on what you said you liked". though i do agree with the sentiment that the metal community could and should be a lot more open and accepting of other genres, it isnt that bad everywhere. for example the power metal band angra wouldn't sound as kickass if it werent for the influence brazilian jazz had on their music. also a lot of metal bands take influence from completely non-metal genres. the metal community can be pretty open to newcomers, and at other times be so fucking gatekeeping that people will shit on all other music than their specific as fuck favourite metal genre. Im a metalhead, and although i dont really listen to music outside of the metal genre umbrella (outside of a few songs), i can still see the validity in other music genres, and realise that taste in music is subjective.
